Mumbai City to encounter Jamshedpur FC in Kalinga Super Cup Semis

Bhubaneswar, April 27 (PTI) Captain Lallianzuala Chhangte struck in the second half when Mumbai City beat their place in the Kalinga Super Cup semi -finals on Sunday in the Kalinga Super Cup semi -finals. After a aimless first half, Chhangte’s 71st minute goal proved the difference in a match with fine margins. Mumbai City will face Jamshedpur FC in the semi-finals after the latter Northeast United FC beat 5-4 in a dramatic penalty in another quarter-final at Kalinga Stadium on Sunday. The Jamshedpur vs northeastern match ended in a dead end after the regulation time, forcing a nervous penalty kick that died suddenly. In the first match between Mumbai City and Inter Kashi, a cautious first half was mostly played in midfield, with none of the two who could register a single shot at the target during the period. It was a predictable set of characters leading the two sides’ offensive charges, Edmund Lalrindika and Nikola Stojanovic’s influence opposed by Chhangs and Jorge Ortiz. The best chance of half fell against Vikram Partap Singh, played by Nathan Rodrigues with a brilliant long ball. The ball was perfect within its course and would have opened a chance to shoot straight to the goal without there being no defenders in the area. But the touch of the forward was too heavy and was closed almost immediately, and the half chance was taken away. Mumbai City was the desire to get to the scoreboard in the second half. Inter Kashi was pleased to defend and search for the chances on the counter. In the 53rd minute, Niko Karelis made an acrobatic effort from within the six Yard area after the first head of Mehtab Singh was typified by Shubham Das on the cross. The odds fell from an angle, which in itself was a product of a sharp rescue made by Das of Ortiz’s Snap Volley of Pn Noufal’s cross. Das was back in the middle of the drama shortly afterwards, and dived with a full time to take away a casual flight through his defender, which was destined for the back of the net. The odds were created by another Ortiz Long Pass in the box. Mumbai’s reward came in the 71st minute via Chhangs. After the low cross of PN Noufal was cleared badly, Niko Karelis had two shots on the seven -meter goal, both of his efforts were blocked by the desperate Kashi defenders. The second setback fell in the way of Chhangte. He fired a first time at the nearby post and the ball jumped off the upright and went in. First Published: 28 Apr 2025, 12:01 am Ist
