This is called the [Johnson-Hanson Coil Effect](https://youtu.be/dQw4w9WgXcQ), in which perceived rotational motion is caused my motion along the coil. Similar to how watching a bus next to you backing up makes you feel like you’re moving forward.
This is the exit for the San Siro stadium in Milan.
Amazing design!
An optical illusion caused by the people
Damn you’ve probably walked a quarter mile by the time you make it down.

I thought it was one huge escalator at first
Trippy design.

My eyes hurt looking at it. Pretty neat but can’t look at it more than a few seconds.
I read a few years ago that each metro area has its own walking pace and gait. This reminds me of that study since they are all walking the same speed.
Is it just a ramp?
It took the tittle for me to realize the structure wasn’t spinning.
I went to a concert in the San Siro years ago and I wish I had known to look out for this! Would have been so cool to see in person, I just walked away
The Etihad stadium in Manchester had the same design. I remember being freaked out the first time I saw people doing this.
If you cover all the ramps with your hand and then reveal them slowly, it only takes three ramps to create the illusion.
Would be great if the motion of the people going down made it spin, though.
Got me there
An oversized meat grinder
Great way to get to/from the next level
“I like turtles.”
the most inefficient set of stairs ever

Cool! Look at the base it’s fixed. Move up to the top it appears to be rotating.
Yeah nah mate it’s just a trippa snippa
Too bad it’s not a slide.
right in the guggenheim
But it is
People are just walking in tandem
I’m feeling pretty dumb right about now
why didnt they made a stair thats going straight down that would be more quick to get down
Midgar vibes
imagine at the bottom of the stairs there is a portal to brazil
You sure?!?
Unreal.
It would be a nextfuckinglevel escalator if the structure continuously turned like a corkscrew to get the people down.
What a fucking horrible waste of time
