Micronizing ocean plastics are contributing to waste-associated species inhabitants decline and extinction. “Micronizing” is when a substance is damaged down into very advantageous particles. As ocean plastics micronize, these more and more smaller particles are being eaten by the tiniest inhabitants within the ocean.
This can compromise the complete meals chain.
As plastic accumulate in animals, it inhibits their capacity to soak up the vitamins essential to survive. It’s very possible that except drastic modifications are made instantly, that full disruption of the ocean life cycle could happen within the very close to future.
