PATIENTS. >> BLUE AND GOLD. 29 WEEKS. >> 78 CADETS WITH THE CHOP ARE — CHOP ARE PUMPED UP TO BRIGHTEN THE LIVES OF SOME KIDS. >> WE’RE EXCITED TO SEE THE KIDS AND BE A PART OF WHAT THE SHRINERS STANDS FOR. >> TODAY THEY ARE CLEANING CARS, THE GAME ROOM AND FIXING UP THE PLAYGROUNDS. >> WE TRY TO MAKE THIS AS JOYFUL A PLACE AS POSSIBLE. IT’S NOT ALWAYS JOYFUL FOR THE KIDS, BUT WHEN THEY’RE ABLE TO GET UP THERE ROOM AND FORGET ABOUT A PROCEDURE OR SOMETHING THEY HAVE BEEN GOING THROUGH HERE AND JUST PLAY AND BE A KID THAT IS WHAT CHP IS HELPING US DO IS ALLOW THE KIDS TO BE KIDS. >> WE ALL GET INTO THIS FIELD BECAUSE I WANT TO MAKE IT IMPACT OUR COMMUNITY. >> FOR AMY, VOLUNTEERED IS PERSONAL. >> MYSELF, I HAVE A FIVE-YEAR-OLD AND HE HAD A THREE-MONTH HOSPITAL STAY. >> RAY SAYS BEING IN THE HOSPITAL WITH A SICK CHILD IS THE HARDEST THING APPEARING WILL HAVE TO GO THROUGH BUT BEING SURROUNDED BY LOVE MAKES THE JOURNEY EASIER. >> I KNOW DURING OUR HOSPITAL STAY, ANY TIME YOU HAD SOMEONE HELP, IT WAS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE A BIG IMPACT AND THE CHILDREN’S LIFE AND THE PARENTS LIFE AS THE CAREGIVERS. >> AT SHRINERS CHILDREN ARE TREATED WITH OR WITHOUT INSURANCE. EVERY YEAR 30,000 PATIENTS WALK THROUGH THE DOOR. DOCTORS SAY PLAYTIME IN A CLEAN ENVIRONMENT HAS BEEN PROVEN TO HELP WITH HEALING. THESCADETS HAVE TO FINISH THE ACADEMY BUT THEY ARE PROVING THE HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO HELP THE YOUNGEST MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY. >> THEY ARE BEAUTIFYING A PLACE FOR THE KIDS TO ENJOY THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE YEA

Cadets with the California Highway Patrol in Sacramento spent the day Saturday donating their time to help Shriner’s Hospital for Children.The cadets cleaned cars, the game room and fixed up the playground some of the kids count on to forget they are sick.The day ended with a pizza party with some of the patients who were healthy enough to attend.CHP has volunteered at Shriners for more than a decade.Get the full story in the video above.
