The Gastro-Neuro-Immune Triad and The Diet-Nutrition Setup: From Maternal Microbiota to First Foods
Slides:
The biochemical crosstalk between the developing neurololgical and immunological systems is diverse, complex and constant. Both systems are rooted in the gastro-intestinal tract, known as both the second brain as well as home to 70% of the entire immune system. These rapidly developing systems in a newborn are significantly impacted by the gastro-intestinal tract, which itself is a delicate and often fledgling organ even at full term. Both maternal and paternal dietary and nutritional factors influence a miriad of conditions that set in motion the foundation for optimizing gastrointestinal health before and after delivery. Every exposure after birth, much which is delivered via the GI tract, will influence immune tolerance-intolerance and neurological growth: neurons, synapses and early wiring. This lecture will explore this subject and how diet and nutrition can ideally advance health and well being or set in motion a series of sequela.
