Some small (2-3mm) trachymedusa called Aglaura hemistoma (family Rhopalonematidae.)(Thanks Jeff @jeffmilisen )These are common in oceans worldwide except polar areas. Trachymedusa are in a group called automedusa because these are hydrozoans that are entirely planktonic. They don’t have a hydroid stage where they anchor to the bottom. They may be common but they are hard to spot, because they are small and translucent. That clarity is part of the their survival strategy but also contributes to beautiful refractive colors from the strobes. Photographed at night over deep water off Palm Beach, Florida. #uwmacro #underwaterphotography #uwpics #nightdive #foodchain #blackwaterdiving #natureflorida #sfups #tinywildthings #palmbeach #jellyfish #invertebrate #invertebrates #zooplankton #hydromedusa #jellyfishes #naturefl #marinebiology #hydrozoan #hydromedusa #trachymedusae
