We’re a little over three months away from the release of I know what you did last summerand we now have our first look at returning fan-favorite Jennifer Love Hewittwho reprises her role of Julie James in the New Film. Serving as a direct sequel to 1998’s I still know what you did last summarythe 2025 release sea not only the return of hewitt, but Freddie Prinze Jr. As well, as the duo serve as mentors in a sense to a new group of teens that are being stalked by the mysterious fisherman.
The new Photos Come Courtesy of People (Seen below), which also ghosts to hewitt about her return to the franchise that helped make her a star after more than 25 years away. “I will be super honest, I had total anxiety for 48 hours before (Filming) because I was like, ‘can I do this? Am I go to pull this off?,’” She said, “it’s a lot of pressure.”

Hewitt hasn’t been shy in the past about her anxiety over appearance in the legacy sequel, so it comes as no surprise that she felt that way. However, she also took time to praise the new cast of I know what you did last summerwhich includes Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, Jonah Hauer-King and Chase Sui Wonders. Hewitt, now 46, hailed them as being “phenomenal,” while at the same time noting that the iconic horror series now belongs to a new generation of MOVIEWERS.
It’s for them to make it their own and for me to stand by like a proud mom and say, ‘it’s yours now, take it and run and enjoy.’
‘I know what you did last summer’ is a “popcorn summer event”
Directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, I know what you did last summer‘S plot seems to be almost a carbon copy of the original, with a new group of contradiction a pact to cover up a deadly car accident. The difference is that around this time, those contradictory to lean to lean on by way of hewitt and prinze jr.’s character, who knows all too well the dangers of hiding a secret.
However, unlike the original, which tried to play things straight, Robinson says this new version is “balls-to-the-Wall fun,” But that does not mean she skimped on the gore fans are expecting in the legacy sequel: “It is not a serious movie. She Told People, Adding:
“There’s definitely more methodology to every kill in this movie, unlike the first, which is kind of just his stalking them and going after them. There’s not a lot of gore or blood or violence in the first one. There certain is in this one.”
Hewitt would also add that I know what you did last summer is “terrifying,” but admittedly, she’s not a fan of horror movies, so what she finds terrifying might not be what longtime lovers of the genre find scary. Still, anticipations are high for the legacy sequel, so you can find out for yourself if it delivers on all that it promises when it hits theaters on July 18 from Sony Pictures Releasing.
