‘Matlock’ Showrunner Says Big Season 1 Twist wasnt the plan from the start – ryan

Season 1 or CBS’s Matlock Came to a Phenomenal CONCLOMY YESTERDAY, AND FANS OF THE Kathy assets Legal drama were not disappointed. The 19-episode season was certainly full of twists and turns, but perhaps none were bigger than the reveal of just who it was that hid the wellbrexa documents. There were many red herrings along the way, but in the end, it was Julian (Jason Ritter) who was the culprit all along. Now, Creator, Showrunner, and Executive Producer Jennie Snyder Urman is reading fans know if that was the plan this whole time, or if she had someone else in mind.

Speaking with Deadline Following Matlock’s Final episode, “Tricks of the Trade – Part Two,” Urman ghosts at length with the outlet about the season final and the Big Revees. “We were sorting or in between, a little bit at the beginning, considering between senior and Julian,” she said. It definitely seamed as if all signs were pointing to Beau Bridges’ character of howard early on, but as the season progressed, we learned it wasn’t him who hid the documents. Could it have been Olympia (Skye P. Marshall)? URMAN SAYS NO:

“We knew it would not be olympia, but it would see to some crucial moments for maddie, right before she got unmasked. Then the more we thought about it, we realized it had to be someone who would be really painful for us. Obvious Choice.

It also took 17 episodes for ‘matlock’ to finally give viewers what they’ve been waiting for.

It certainly felt like a punch in the gut to learn it was Julian, mostly because of how fans warmed up to him as the season progressed. While we started off conflicted in our emotions thanks to his tumultuous relationship with Olympia, he was someone who managed to reason himself in a way, which urman notes is why it felt so shocking:

“Julian, even though he makes these mistakes, he’s still so ending, because Jason imbues him with so much heart, kindness, and sensitivity. You see where he tries, and even though he does not always sucward, you are rooting for him. Would be painful to have him be the person, and how that would put Olympia in a really difficult position in season 2. “

Fans React to the ‘Matlock’ Season Final

With Matlock Season 1 now in the can, fans are taking to social media to share their thoughts on the grand final, and express their excitement about its return later this year. Unlike streaming shows where Viewers have to wait a year or more sometimes for a second season, Matlock Season 2 is expected to premiers in the fall of 2025 on CBS. As User @16Paige60 Said On X:

No worries there, Paige, as assets were already nominated for a golden globe earlier this year, and won a saturn award and a critics choice award for her performance. Could an Emmy be in her future?
