Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar asked why not fir in justice Verma case
Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Thursday questioned that the judge of the High Court of Yashwant Verma did not have a fir in the case of cash recovered from Delhi’s residence and said there was no coverage against the judiciary’s independence. Dhankhar said that if the same case was at the home of an ordinary man, the investigation would have been quickly. Pti quoted Dhankar and said: “If this incident was at his (ordinary man) home, the speed of investigation would have been like an electronic rocket. Now it’s not even a cattle car.” Dhankhar insisted that there could not be a complete guarantee against the judiciary’s independence and that such a coverage would be the certainty to demolish an institution. The Vice President also questioned the investigation into the three-member committee, saying that the report did not have a legal basis. He said, “What else can the committee do? The committee can recommend more and more. For whom? And for whom? The only action we have for judges, the only action that can eventually be done can be done by Parliament (by removal of the judge).” He said that the investigation is the area of the executive, not the judiciary. He said: “It is the law of the country that it is necessary to inform the police about every observable offense and not to do so, and not to inform the observable offense is a crime. Therefore, everyone should be surprised why there was no fire.” Share this story -tags
