Tahwwur Hussain Rana is a citizen of Pakistan Origin, who has citizenship of Canada and America. He was a doctor by profession and managed a travel agency in the US. Rana’s name comes on the radar of international security agencies after reaching the conspiracy of 26/11 Mumbai attacks. He was also related to David Headley, who has already been convicted in India for this terror attack. Headley acknowledged in the investigation that Rana provided logistics and financial assistance. The black day of 26/11, on November 26, 2008, 10 terrorists from the Pakistan-based terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba Mumbai infiltrated by sea and performed a coordinated terror attack. 166 people have lost their lives in this attack, including foreign citizens. These attacks not only shook India, but also the whole world. Large places such as Taj Hotel, Oberoi Trident, Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) and Nariman House were attacked. According to the long process of extradition from the US, the process of extradition of Rana from the US was a complicated and long lawsuit. In the US, Rana has adopted all legal options to prevent its extradition. But due to concrete evidence and regular efforts by the Government of India, the US Court eventually gave a decision in favor of India. The NIA also made it clear that the process of bringing Rana to India under the Indo-US expansion treaty was done. India presented strong documents and evidence against Rana to the US Court, which mentioned his active role in 26/11 attacks. What will happen in India now? Rana will now have to go through a judicial process in India. The NIA has dozens of evidence against him that proves him as the most important conspirator. He will be prosecuted under the UAPA under the UAPA, the Indian Criminal Act and many other strict laws related to terrorist activities. The Government of India and Security Agencies mentioned this extradition as a major victory in India’s diplomatic and legal battle against terrorism. An official from the Interior Ministry said: “This is a direct proof of zero tolerance policy against the terror of India. Whoever is involved in the murder of innocent citizens, he is everywhere, he will have to face the court of India.” Connection to David Headley David Coleman Headley, who is already serving a sentence in the US, has made several serious revelations against Rana. Headley said Rana was not only aware of the terrorist mission in India, but also helped on many levels. The NIA has evidence of email, call records and financial transactions with Rana’s Headley. Will it become an example? As far as this extradition is concerned, many security experts believe that the case will further strengthen India’s policy against international terrorism. This message is clear – no matter where the conspirators are hidden, India will bring them to the dock. The families of the victims who lost their lives in the Mumbai attacks now see a new ray of justice after this extradition. The daughter of a victim told the media: “We have lost our family, but now we are at least satisfied that the culprits are being punished.” The extradition of Tehwavur Rana is not only a legal process, but is a symbol of India’s safety, sovereignty and strength of the legal system. This made it possible with NIA years of hard work, coordination with US agencies and strong diplomatic efforts. Now the whole country hopes that this Brain of 26/11 will receive strict punishment for its actions.
