48 percent women in 7.65 crore signals of Atal Pension Yojana: Government

New -Delhi, May 16 (IANS). 48 percent of the 7.65 crore scales of the Atal pension Yojana are women. This information was given in the data released by the government. Atal Pension Yojana (APY) was launched in May 2015. Its purpose was to give a good and reliable option of pension to the people of the country’s disorganized sector, so that they could spend their lives comfortably after retirement. Apys is dependent on the age and the amount of contribution to joining the pension fund. Its purpose was to mainly target the poor and underprivileged workers of the informal sector mainly and this has emerged as one of the most inclusive and accessible social security initiatives in India. The Social Welfare Division said: “By April 2025, more than 7.65 crore subscribers were connected to the APY, raising a total amount of Rs 45,974,67 crore.” The government department further said: “The participation of women in APYS is increasing quickly. Now the part of women in total subscribers has risen to 48 percent.” In the financial year 2024-25, more than 55 percent of the new subscribers were women. There was also a strong increase in the total entry during the same period. The APY scheme was initially available to all Indian citizens between 18 and 40 years. People who pay income tax in October 2022 are not eligible to join the scheme. In terms of this scheme, subscribers become a certain monthly pension (Rs 1,000, Rs 2,000, Rs 3,000, Rs 4,000 and Rs 5,000 per month at the age of 60 based on their contribution.
