President Li J-Mayang will take part in the G-7 Summit: South Korean President's office

Seoul, June 7 (IANS). South Korean President Li J-Mayang will attend the group of seven (G-7) advanced countries that will be held in Canada later this month as he received an invitation for the event. According to President’s spokesman Kong You-Jung, Lee will attend the G-7 summit held in Alberta from June 15 to 19. Lee, who took over on Wednesday after winning the presidential election on June 3, will be the first step on the multilateral diplomatic stage. South Korea is not a member country of G-7, but was invited for extensive G-7 sessions in 2021 and 2023, when Britain and Japan were host countries respectively. Lee is expected to have bilateral discussions with US President Donald Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba during the G-7 summit. There can also be a three -party top between the three leaders. In the midst of the new tensions between the US China, Lee took an oath to adopt a ‘practical’ diplomacy focused on national interests. He said that the South Korea-American alliance remains the basis of Seoul’s foreign policy. He also promised to strengthen the Triple Party partnership with the US and Japan, which was strengthened under the previous administration, based on a solid Seoul Washington alliance. Lee had a telephone conversation with Trump for the first time on Friday night and he soon agreed to reach a satisfactory agreement with a mutual permission for the US tariff for South Korean exports. According to the Yonhap News Agency, an official of Seoul’s president told reporters that the two leaders created a hearty atmosphere and confirmed their closeness.
