Kulataj Singh worked as associate professor (PR) in the Department of Physical Education of MDU. He received his PhD degree at CMJ University, Meghalaya, on December 5, 2012. Based on this degree, he was promoted to the post of Professor and is also the head of the department. Later, another professor of the department filed a petition in the Supreme Court in which he disputed the validity and promotion of his degree. All the grades issued by 2013 argued that according to the order of the Supreme Court of September 13, 2013, all the degrees issued by CMJ University until April 30, 2013 were declared illegal. In addition, the Haryana Directorate for Higher Education also instructed to cancel all such appointments and admissions based on the degrees of CMJ University. The Supreme Court ordered MDU in his order on November 23, 2023, to decide on the validity of Kulataj Singh’s PhD degree in a three -month period. But Mdu continued to hang the case and passed a proposal to ‘maintain the status quo’. The attitude was filed against the SC orders and a contempt request was filed against it, saying that the attitude of MDU disregarded the orders of the Supreme Court and biased. The Supreme Court took a difficult stand on April 3, 2025 and instructed the MDU registrar to appear via video conferencing and asked to follow the order by April 5, 2025. After this, the MDU CEO was held on April 4, 2025, which decided that Kulataj Singh’s PhD degree would be as invisible and that other benefits of December 5, 2012 will be.
