(Reuters) Summary This Gizmos, be it the human Ai -bearable pen or rabbit R1, is overheated. Now Openai and Jonathan Ive teamed up from Apple fame. What will it take to turn the AI hardware story to turn? Where are all the artificial intelligence (AI) consumers? Even a year ago, technical companies seemed to work to record the technology in every physical device, from coffee makers to vacuum cleaners, which seem to be “ai-powered” hardware as if it would soon be just as everywhere as “battery-powered” electronics. Technical conferences typically provide a glitter of these futuristic toys. Not everyone finally hits the market, but this is where we can dream a little about new sact devices or household robots that take a greater role in our lives. So it was a little disappointing at the greatest artificial intelligence conference in Asia, Taiwan’s Computex last week, to make almost no mention of the technical directed by the consumer. Most keys focused on AI business applications, such as agents or automatic manufacturing. The only thing that caught my eye was wireless computer mice formed like cats. For the beginning, there is the reality that hardware engineering presents a very different set of physical challenges compared to AI software. And a global trade war also makes it a risky time to start a new device if it is unclear whether consumers are interested. Companies also start the fact that Wall Street is full of a global hype on an AI boom, but it is not exactly a point of sale in Main Street. If there is anything, some of the managers who spoke during the conference have poured cold water on the next generations of these AI first consumer products. Asusk Computer Computer CEO Samson Hu told Bloomberg News that it will take another year or more for AI-powered computers to go mainstream because the technology is not quite there yet and macroeconomic uncertainty affects people’s expenses. Despite the mountain of promotion, there were few compelling use cases for AI computers. Meanwhile, the cemetery of AI hardware that was supposed to transform our lives. The human AI -Pen bearable device – laid last year to many hype about how it will replace the smartphone – has a brutal assessment and a fire hazard. The start, run by two former Apple employees, stopped selling its AI pen earlier this year and was sold for parts. The rabbit R1 -Assistant [a stand-alone hand-held AI assistant device] is another warning story of the false promises of these devices. But that does not mean that the future of AI consumer products is not on the way. Openai made a big announcement last week that he was working with legendary iPhone designer Jony Ive to launch something that AI takes in the physical world for consumers. But even the power of Openai’s technology and the design of the design of Ive make everything they have in mind makes a very certainty. Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon said during his main speech that AI computers are in a phase where they will require the work from outside developers to appeal to consumers. For example, the iPhone, for example, did not start after being introduced. But it has become necessary for so many people because of the many apps developers are built on it that we now use to go on taxis, order food or move new cities. “The developer ecosystem is going to do this shift to AI computers,” Amon said. He is right, and the same is true as just AI computers. For any revolutionary AI hardware, especially a smartphone killer, the more global developers lead the load to meet people’s needs and solve small everyday problems, the more likely they will succeed. In this economy, it may not mean to repack the same old gadgets with bright new AI labels. This means repeating and perfecting cases of actual use that include the buzzing technology in devices and facilitate our lives. And it will inevitably be a collective effort. I find that chatgpt is asked to translate phrases quickly for me while on my way to a lifesaver when I have to navigate a new country. But I hardly want to eliminate money to carry a new device, simply to access Chatgpt. The more the technology industry tries to clap AI on everything and market it as a miracle for all our problems, the more I get a snake oil salesman. The future of AI hardware does not come in a magic new apparatus, it will be built by tackling these tasks one by one and not at the same time. © Bloomberg The author is a Bloomberg -Opinion columnist who covers Asia Tech.
