The National Council for Teacher Training (NCTE) has begun the process of transforming more than 12 thousand single B.Ed colleges in the country into multidisciplinary institutions. The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTTE), an organization operating this single B.Ed colleges, has compiled a high-level committee, which will also set up a time limit for upgrading as multidisciplinary institutions of all these institutions. The NCTE recently made this decision in a council meeting that made the recommendations of NEP. It is believed that shortly after studying the resources and capacity of all these institutions, they will be helped to move forward in that direction. There are currently more than 37 thousand B.Ed colleges across the country, including about 12 thousand single B.Ed colleges. Why did NCTe take this initiative? NCTE took this initiative, because under the new integrated B.Ed course, institutions must offer courses such as BA, BSc and BCom. Courses such as Ba-Bad, BSc-B.ed and BCom-B.ed are now operating in the five-year integrated B.Ed course. However, permission to perform this integrated B.Ed course was only given to selected higher education institutions. This includes many IITs and Nits. The target of GER is so important that a target is set to bring the country’s gross entry ratio (GER) to 50 percent by the year 2035. By it is necessary that the extent of higher education institutions in the country be expanded. Currently, higher education in the country is about 29 percent.
