Hollywood Road gets a cozy reds joint with lasagna factory
(Bloomberg) – A charming addition arrived on Hong Kong’s Hollywood road. Do not be fooled by his industrial name. The lasagna factory, sister restaurant in Flat Iron Steak and Picanhas, is what Italian-Americans like me lovingly call a joint of a red bag: a warm, family-style eating experience born in immigrant neighborhoods in New York and Chicago. But does the food live on the cherished standard? A colleague and I came here for a few weeks after the opening for lunch to find it out. As we walked inside, greeted by iconic red-white checkered tablecloths and the savory aroma of baked pasta, I suddenly felt: I don’t think we’re in Sheung anymore. According to the recommendation of our server, we chose the $ 128 ($ 16.31) lunch of $ 128 ($ 16.31) which of course contains the namesake dish. We chose the cattle and crab las magnas, although mushroom is available as a vegetarian choice. I preferred the crab, a somewhat unusual yet rich concoction carbohydrates with a subtle seafood scent, while my companion enjoyed the beef, with pulled cuts of soft meat layer in the tower of pasta. Both lasagnas, each served on top of fresh tomato sauce, were packed with traditional flavor – not entirely at my grandmother’s level, but close enough to be sentimental. The fried cheese crust added a delicious contrast to the soft layers of noodles below. The lunch set contains some unique benefits: Unlimited salad with oil-cast mixed greens and garlic bread that was delicious, although it was a little dry (no matter, it was an excellent tool to clean up the sauce). We added the delicious tiramisu (HK $ 28), which, like the other dishes, is served from a family roast pan and is offered free Limoncello, a refreshing antidote to the inevitable heavy meal. Our total bill amounted to $ 327, an incredible value, given how we left the factory. The atmosphere: Think of the Italian spectrum more goodfellas than Gucci, down to the tablecloths that could be imported directly from the Little Italy in New York. A bright, spacious layout and friendly, attentive Waitstaff further contribute to the unpretentious, cozy atmosphere. Can you hold a meeting here? It is a perfect place to catch up with a colleague or a fun team outing, but it can be a little too comfortable for a first customer or source meeting. The back room has larger events, and a private eatery is also available at the top. Who is next to you: You can expect your typical Hollywood Road scene with a mixture of locals and tourists, although it is probably not transplants from Italy. With its big bar and fun atmosphere, it also looks like a nice comfortable update night. What we would order again: the lasagna, of course. Get hungry and prepare for the inevitable food coma afterwards. Must know: The lasagna factory is located at 208 Hollywood Road in Sheung Wan and is open every day from noon until 11:30 pm.
