Congress rushes on caste -sensus! Is social justice or political agenda in Karnataka?
In the last few years, the way in which Rahul Gandhi, leader of Congress, raised the issue of caste census, has been an example in itself. There will be no platform in the country and abroad where they would not have talked about caste census. In Karnataka, instead of implementing the caste census by the Congress government in 2014-15, the Karnataka government will again get caste census. 10 years ago, the spending was about Rs 165 crore. It is clear that it has now been spent more than 300 crores. If you know this, the central government is going to do caste census, what could be the goal of getting caste census in Karnataka again? It is clear that the questions will arise. In fact, two influential role players of the state Lingayat and Vokkaliga communities asked questions about the credibility of the caste census in Karnataka. These communities described it as unscientific, saying that the part of their role players was described as low. Leaders of these communities claim that CM Siddaramaeah’s Kuruba cabinets, including other OBC communities, have been shown exaggerated. This is why Congress government in 2025 said that this report was rejected that it was a decade and incredible. But the right problem was something else. This dispute made three powerful groups of Karnataka Congress three poles. Especially the tension between Siddaramaiah and Mallikarjun Kharge has increased a lot. The BJP also called this new survey a waste of money. BJP -LP Lahar Singh Siroya suggested that the state should wait for the upcoming national census of the central government, including caste calculations, so that the contradiction in the data could be avoided. The census of the center will collect extensive cabinets for the first time since 1931, and its figures may be available by 2026. It is clear that the Karnataka government’s rabbit will raise questions for the cupboards. Where cabinets are uptake in the country, all the governments do their penetration under the backward cabinets. The same is the purpose of the Cabinating recording of the Congressional Government in Karnataka. The Congressional Government in Karnataka, especially Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, wants to strengthen their Ahinda (minority, backward classes, Dalit) strategy. The previous recording of 2014-15, rejected in 2025, raised controversy because of the allegations of the population of Lingayat and Vokkaliga communities. This created tension within the congress, especially between Siddaramaiah and Mallikarjun Kharge. The new survey was under pressure from the Congress High Command, including Rahul Gandhi and Kharge, so that policy benefits for OBC and Dalit communities can be secured. The advantage of this is that before the 2026 election, Congress will get an instrument to help caste comparisons. In Karnataka, a situation of duality arose between the top leadership of the congress of the 2014-15-based socio-economic and educational recording. The tension between Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and the national president of the party, Malikarjun Kharge, was exposed, and Deputy -CM DK Shivkumar also expressed its displeasure. Ahinda previously strengthened (minority, backward class, Dalites). But due to the pressure of Lingayat and Vokkaliga leaders, especially Deputy Head Minister DK Shivkumar (Vokkaliga) and dissatisfaction in the party, the report stopped. Malikarjun Kharge, who comes from the Dalit community, insisted to implement the survey as it could ensure policy benefits for scheduled castes (SC) and OBC. Kharge accused Siddaramaiah of suppressing the recording report in 2013, which also mentioned the role of DK Shivkumar. This year, Rahul Gandhi and Kharge Siddaramaeah put pressure on performing a new recording. Siddaramaiah could not avoid the decision of the high command, even if he did not want to. Because they could not openly oppose the high assignment and did not want to take the dissatisfaction of the Lingayat-Vokkaliga communities. This dispute hampered the equations of power in the Karnataka Congress. Siddaramaiah’s Kuruba and Ahinda -based strategy were challenged by Kharge’s Dalit support and Shivkumar’s Vokkaliga influence. Obviously, the new survey is an attempt to save the congress in Karnataka.
