The Jharkhand Pradesh BJP welcomed the ‘Waqf Board Amendment Bill 2024’ and described it as an effective step to give them the poor, unemployed youth and women of the Muslim society. The party’s state president and leader of the opposition, Babulal Marandi, said that the parties of Indi Alliance, including the congress part, oppose the bill, do not want to see the progress of ordinary people and women of the Muslim society. He said it is very important to use the waqf sign of the clutches of Land Mafia and robbers in the interest of poor Muslims. Some people are opposed to this positive effort by the center by becoming a puppet of Landmafia. It’s sad, they have to worry about poor Muslims. With reference to the history of WAQF, the BJP State President said it exists before independence. Even before independence, the rules and regulations were amended. Until now, this law has been amended five times before. How did the Public Interest Amendment Bill become unconstitutional in such a situation? Marandi said that the UPA government had amended it illegally in 2013 and gave unlimited rights to the WAQF board. The situation is that the WAQF Council can confirm its authority over any land. The problem associated with WAQF is not only of Muslims, but it causes Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Christians and even Muslims suffering on a large scale. There were many cases in which Waqf arbitrarily described temples, Gurudwaras and even the entire town as the property of WAQF. The Kolkata High Court and the Supreme Court did not regard WAQF as a religious council, but saw it as a trust or institution erected under the WAQF Act, related to the management and maintenance of the property. Marandi said that the WAQF Amendment Bill will now not affect the already registered land supply under WAQF. The issues on which the dispute is underway will be resolved by order of the court. The purpose of the bill is to effectively address issues related to the powers of the WAQF directions, the registration of WAQF properties, survey and removal of the exceeding. Therefore, many Muslim organizations, Christian organizations also supported the WAQF Amendment Bill. This bill is for reform, not for rebellion.
