The Minister of Tourism for Al -Sharq: The number of visitors to Egypt jumps 25% to 3.9 million in the first quarter

According to the Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sharif Fathi, the number of tourists increased by 25%by 25%during the first quarter of this year to 3.9 million tourists. He added in an interview with ‘Al -Sharq’, on the sidelines of his participation in the ‘Arab travel market’ in Dubai, that Egypt will add 18 thousand new rooms to his hotel capacity this year. The number of tourists to Egypt increased by about 5% last year to record 15.7 million tourists last year, amid geopolitical disorders in the region and directly affected Egyptian tourism, representing one of the sources of the country’s main currency as revenue last year. Fathi also announced today the launch of a tourism promotion campaign in its country affecting 8 European countries, with the aim of attracting new markets, parallel to retaining traditional markets. The number of visitors to Egypt is expected to increase by 8% from last year by the end of this year. Earlier this month, the Minister of Tourism and Antiquities issued a decision to organize the conditions and controls of licensing “holiday apartments”, a new style of hotel accommodation, as part of the Egyptian government’s efforts to increase hotel energy in the country, to keep up with the expected growth in the number of tourists. Cairo intends to double the number of tourists by 2030 to 30 million, and to increase the annual revenue for the tourism sector to $ 24 billion, compared to about $ 15 billion currently. To achieve this goal, the country looks forward to adding more than 200 thousand new hotel rooms within 3 to 4 years, compared to the current edition of about 230 thousand rooms.
