Niger Delta Congress holds big protest on April 7 against Tinubu's Emergency Government in the Rivers States
The NDC condemned the statement of a state of emergency and the suspension of elected officials and called the move an attack on democracy and the people of the Rivers state. The Niger Delta Congress (NDC) will hold a peaceful protest against the emergency rule declared by President Bola Tinubu in the Rivers state on April 7, 2025. This development was announced in a press release released on April 3. The NDC condemned the statement of a state of emergency and the suspension of elected officials, with the label of the move an attack on democracy and the people of the Rivers state. “These actions undermine the will of the people and threaten the stability of the Niger -Delta region,” said Mudiaga Ogboru, the national spokesman for the NDC. The protest, which is scheduled to take place at Isaac Boro Park from 07:00, aims to claim the restoration of democratic governance in the state. Saharan Porters reported earlier that Nigerian police in Niger -Delta congress had detained the planned protest march against President Bola Tinubu’s emergency government in the Rivers state. According to a report on March 26, the NDC president in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, was arrested and arrested at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Rivers State. A source familiar with the situation told Saharan Porters that police initially invited NDC spokesperson Mudiaga Ogboru for his criticism of the emergency rule and that he urged the Niger -Delta people to exercise their civil rights by displacing protests or other ways to disapprove of the presidential richt. In the confirmation of the development, Ogboru told Saharan Porters that he had received two separate invitations – one of the Lagos State Police Command and another from the Rivers State Police Command. Both were related to the planned protests now announced for April 7.
