‘Can We Send Her Back’ – ryan

Wendy’s restaurant may have beef with Katy Perry, and the internet is living for it.

Following the historic rocket ride to space on Monday, April 14, with Blue Origin’s all-female flight crew, the fast food chain’s X (formerly Twitter) account took a slight jab at the “Dark Horse” singer, 40, who was also aboard the flight.

“Can we send her back,” the account wrote in response to a post that read, “Katy Perry has returned from space.”

The account then reposted images of the award-winning singer kissing the ground after returning from the expedition, and wrote, “I kissed the ground and I liked it,” a callback to Perry’s hit 2008 hit song, “I Kissed a Girl.”

In another thread, a poster noted that Perry and crew — journalist Gayle King, philanthropist Lauren Sánchez , astronaut and bioastronautics research scientist Amanda Nguyen, NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, and filmmaker Kerianne Flynn — were in space for 10 minutes.

In response, the Wendy’s account corrected, “Don’t short change her, it was 11 minutes,” to which a social media user responded, “Good one Wendy.”

“I’m a woman send me to space,” the Wendy’s account continued on. “When we said women in stem this isn’t what we meant.”

Wendy’s did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

The barbed posts divided fans as some found the posts to be hilarious and others labeled them generally unprofessional and uncalled for. However, the unprovoked commentary also sparked a familiar tension between Perry and fellow musician Kesha, 38.

Kesha took to her own Twitter to share a selfie while sipping from a Wendy’s cup. No caption was attached to the post, however, the ominous post sparked recollections from fans of Kesha suing Perry’s 143 album producer Dr. Luke, 51, for sexual assault in October 2014. The producer denied the claims and later countersued for defamation.

“I love me a shady Kesha,” wrote one commenter. Another added, “Yall drag kesha for being petty but id be shady to a woman who worked with my rapist til the end.”

Perry received backlash for deciding to work with Dr Luke on the 2024 album, particularly from Kesha, who survived a decades-long law battle with the producer, which later settled out of court in June 2023, as reported by PEOPLE.

“Only God knows what happened that night. As I have always said, I cannot recount everything that happened,” Kesha wrote in an official statement shared on Instagram at the time. “I am looking forward to closing the door on this chapter of my life and beginning a new one. I wish nothing but peace to all parties involved.”

Perry hasn’t made a public response to Wendy’s commentary, but seems to be reveling in the “incredible journey” she made with the other women aboard the space flight.

“Thank you @blueorigin and to my space sisters,” she wrote on Instagram following the event, “taking up space AND making room in space for all – 143.”
