Second Unauthorized Child with Measurement Die in Texas
(Bloomberg)-A child in the school age in Texas who was recently diagnosed with measles has died amid a growing outbreak in the state. The child, who was not vaccinated, was admitted to hospital and received treatment for complications of measles, according to ‘NE -mail release from the UMC health system in Lubbock, Texas. The child had no underlying health conditions, the statement said. “This unfortunate event underlines the importance of vaccination,” said Hospital spokeswoman Aaron Davis. “Measles is a very infectious disease that can lead to serious complications, especially for those who are not vaccinated.” Local health officials still worked to confirm some details on the matter on Sunday. Davis declined to comment on when exactly the child died. This is the second death that has been linked to measles in the state this year, after the US went for a decade without any deaths to the very contagious virus. So far this year, 607 measles cases have been reported in 21 states, according to the latest data from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Ninety-seven percent of cases involved patients who were not vaccinated, or those whose vaccination was unknown. According to the CDC, the MMR vaccine is very powerful, with one dose 93% effective in preventing infection. Texas was by far the hardest hit. The Department of State Health reported 481 cases. The US Department of Health and Human Services did not respond to requests for comment. HHS secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Openly questioned the safety of vaccines and public health experts said he had put down the importance of the MMR vaccine in the current measles outbreak.
