Life spent between police system since childhood
Amitabh Yash is originally from Bhojpur district of Bihar. He was born on 11 April 1971. His father Ramayash Singh was also an IPS officer and reached the post of DIG in Bihar cadre. Growing up in such an environment, Amitabh Yash got inspired to go to the police service since childhood.

Study from Delhi University and IIT Kanpur
Amitabh Yash’s early studies took place in Patna. He then obtained a degree of graduation from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University. It was from here that his interest in science increased and he took a MSC degree in Chemistry from IIT Kanpur for further studies. However, his real goal was to pass the Civil Services Examination (UPSC) and become a police officer.

Preparation of UPSC sitting in the police station
The struggle of Amitabh Yash is no less than any inspiration. He himself told in an interview that when he was preparing for the UPSC exam, he often used to sit in the police station and study. Many times they used to eat food in the police station. His hard work paid off and in 1995 he was selected in UPSC.

Travel from first posting to STF
Amitabh Yash, a 1996 batch IPS officer, received the first posting as SP in Santakbirnagar district of UP. After this, he served as SP and SSP in districts like Barabanki, Saharanpur, Noida, Kanpur, Bulandshahr, Maharajganj, Sitapur, Jalaun and Hardoi.

Identity received as encounter specialist
In 2007, he was made the SSP of the UP Special Task Force (STF). In 2017, he became IG STF and reached the post of ADG in 2021. During this time, he led the encounter operation of many big criminals, including Asad Ahmed, son of mafia Atik Ahmed. In January 2024, he was made ADG Law and Order, where he is now handling the law and order of UP.
