Constant fire incidents have expressed concern about fire safety measures in industrial units across Gujarat. There have been many major fire incidents in Gujarat over the past few years. There were incidents of fire in factories, commercial enterprises and residential buildings in cities such as the state of the state, especially Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara and Rajkot. One of the most tragic incidents was a fire in the Surat coaching center in 2019, in which 22 youths were killed, after which the fire safety rules were strictly implemented across the state. There were several incidents of fire in chemical and textile factories in the Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) areas, which are often believed to be due to electrical short circuits, improper storage of flammable materials or not to safety standards. In Surat, Diamond Passion Units and Textile Factory were sensitive to fire hazards due to the nature of particularly processed materials and sometimes insufficient safety measures. The Department of Firefighting and Emergency Services is working to increase fire prevention and reaction capabilities throughout the state. After major incidents, the state government, from time to time, started in industrial units, schools, hospitals and commercial complexes with fire safety audit to ensure the compliance of fire safety norms. However, the challenges of implementation and maintenance remain. -Ians Ekde/
