Sheikh Mohammed Approves Massive 6,500km Pedestrian Network – ryan
Dubai has approved a comprehensive plan to develop over 6,500 kilometers of pedestrian paths, AIMING TO TRANSFORM THE EMIRATE IN A WALKABLE CITY BY 2040.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al MaktoumVice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai Announced the ‘Dubai Walk’ Project, which will create 3,300 kilometres of new pedestrian paths and rehabilitate 2,300 kilometers of existing routes.
The plan targets increase pedestrian movement from 13 percent to 25 percent by 2040 and include the development of 110 Pedestrian Bridges and tunnels to enhance urban connectivity, according to an official statement.

“We have approved the Dubai Walk Master Plan, A 6,500 km Network of Modern Walkways Covering 160 Areas Across the Emirate. The Plan includes constructing 3,300 km of new walkways and rehabilitating 2,300 km of existing ones by 2040, in addition to more than 900 km of Walkways Planned Beyond 2040. It also involves development 110 Pedestrian Bridges and underpasses to enhance connectivity.
The project will be implemented in three phases, with the pilot phase starting between 2025 and 2027. There will also be three models of walkways: scenic-leaf walkways, City connectivity walkways and community walkways.
IT includes diverse PATH Models, including 112 kilometers or Waterfront Paths, 64 kilometres or Urban Paths, 124 kilometers or Green Paths, and 150 kilometres or rural and mountain paths.

Key areas of focus include the historic all race area and the museum of the future, where an iconic two-kilometre bridge will connect to vital sites.
The Bridge will feature 30,000 Square Metres of Air-conditioned Floor Space and an Equal Area of Open Spaces with Shading Elements.
A Global Competition was launched to design pedestrian paths, with Consulting Firm LXA Winning for their innovative designs in the Al Ras and Museum of the Future Areas.

To encourage walking, Dubai will launch a Smart Application Allowing Residents to Track Walking Data, Earn Rewards, and Access Comprehensive Information About Pedestrian Routes.
The Project Aligns with Dubai’s Urban Plan 2040 and Quality of Life Strategy 2033, Aiming to provide infrastructure that allows residents to access 80 percent of services within twenty minutes.
