No sir, no voice ... to bihar, now the ruckus in bengal, the election commission got badly caught up
In the Western Bengals, politics was warm about the special intensive review (SIR) of the voters list. The BJP launched a campaign with the slogan of “Sir No, no voice”, while the Trinamol Congress (TMC) questions the process. In such a situation, there is pressure on the Electoral Commission (ECI) from two sides. On the one hand, there is a demand for transparent voter list, on the other, there is a fear of cutting the name on a large scale. What is sir and why is it necessary? Sir means intensive verification of the voter list from home to home. This corresponds to the old records, duplicate names are removed, the names of the deceased or migrant people are removed and the names of the new qualifying voters are added. The Electoral Commission says that no eligible voters should be outside this process and that no suitable person should be included in the list. Sir was first started in Bihar. The case reached the Supreme Court there. After the court’s instructions, the chief election officer released a list of 65 Lakh names in the first phase and the list of reasons for its removal. It increased transparency, but politics also strengthened. The opposition claims to have affected the voters of very poor classes. This led to a clear message that if the process is not transparent and based on logic, there may be allegations to deprive the franchise and also increase the court’s intervention. In Bengal, BJP vs. Trinamool Congress BJP leader Shubhendu Adhikari and state president Samik Bhattacharya say elections should not be held until Sir (Special Information Report) is ready. The BJP claims that the Trinamol congress wants to maintain the names of dead people, duplicate voters and illegal migrants. At the same time, Chief Minister Mamata Bannerjee describes Sir as an “NRC -like process”. He says it will increase the burden of paperwork on the poor and marginalized people. Mamta advised people not to sign no form without complete information. Share this story -tags
