Waqf amendment bill if bill passed so many properties of bihar-jaharkhand will come under its purview | Waqf Board Amendment Bill: If the law is enacted, then Bihar-Jharkhand will come under the realm
Waqf Properties In Bihar And Jharkhand: The Waqf Amendment Bill is going to be introduced in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. The tension in the ruling party and the opposition has increased and everyone’s eyes are going to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, whose party JDU has announced that it is going to clear its stand in Parliament on this bill. In such a situation, let us tell you that if this bill becomes a law after passing the Parliament, then the assets related to Bihar and Jharkhand will also come under the new law. Earlier we know how many properties related to Waqf are in Bihar and Jharkhand.

In 2022, the then Union Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi released a report on the properties of the Waqf Board. In this, he had informed that Waqf has a total of 7 lakh 85 thousand 934 properties across the country. Uttar Pradesh has the highest number of assets in Waqf. There are 80,480 properties in Bengal and 60,223 in Tamil Nadu. In Bihar and Jharkhand, the Waqf Board also has land worth crores of rupees. Talking about Bihar, two Waqf Boards are operated now- Bihar State Shia Waqf Board and Bihar State Sunni Waqf Board.
Bihar State Shia Waqf Board and Bihar State Sunni Waqf Board have about 29,000 bighas of land. Among them, the Shia Waqf Board has about 5,000 bighas and the Sunni Waqf Board has 24,000 bighas of land. Sources from the Minority Welfare Department say that the Shia Waqf Board has 1672, while the Sunni Waqf Board has 6480 assets.
According to the Minority Welfare Department, all the cemeteries including the cemetery included in the Waqf State are being siege. 9273 cemeteries have been marked in the state. Of these, 8774 cemeteries have been sieged, while 367 cemeteries are under process, while the siege of 132 cemeteries is being implemented. The Waqf Board has claimed that more than 50 percent of its land in the state is victims of encroachment.

Talking about Jharkhand, the Jharkhand State Sunni Waqf Board has 698 acres of assets. Waqf means the assets that have been dedicated to religious or charitable purposes especially under Islamic law. The first Waqf came in 1954. At that time, the Nehru government gave the land of Muslims from India to the Waqf Board under the Waqf Board Act 1954. The Waqf Board is the third largest landlord in the country in terms of land. Railways and armed security forces have more land than Waqf Board.
