He emphasized the value of ethics in the construction of civilization. “The campus must be a safe, dignified space and the most important stronghold becomes in building ethical values and civilizations, instead of being a place of repeated harassment,” Puan said. Puan urged law enforcement to deal with this matter with transparent and fair. He emphasized that the transgressors of sexual violence should be severely punished without tolerance, as regulated in the number 12 of 2022 regarding criminal acts of sexual violence (TPKS Act). “Again, there should be no the slightest tolerance of sexual violence. Especially if it happens in educational institutions that should be the safest place for our young generation,” the chairman of the PDIP DPP explained. “In the TPKS Act, the law also regulates a fine if the perpetrator is an educator figure. I hope that this is also a consideration in the legal process of this matter,” he added. Puan hopes the legal process can walk professionally. He argued not to allow the Law in Ri Pandang Bulu. “And there may be no legal immunity, although the perpetrators are professors or prominent figures. The law must stand indiscriminately high. Whoever must be responsible,” Puan said. In addition, Puan encouraged the government by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (Kemendikti SAINK) to implement Permendikbudristk No. 30 of 2021 to strengthen the prevention and handling of sexual violence (PPKS). He emphasized that there must be an effective system so that the regulation is carried out in the campus environment. “The PPKS task force needs greater authority and sufficient support not to become a formality,” Puan said. “Cases of sexual harassment involving lecturers with students usually occur as a result of power relations. Then there must be an extensive audit of the academic supervision system,” he continued. Puan added, it is also necessary to have a safe and confidential reporting system, as well as to guarantee concrete protection of witnesses and victims. He called on the formation of a national crisis and assistance center for victims of sexual harassment. “We must also promote national campaigns that oppose the existence of power relations on campus. It certainly requires the support of all parties, including the internal campus itself,” he said. According to Puan, the public should constantly teach about the dangers of power relations in the education system. The purpose is for students to have the awareness and courage to report when they become victims. On the other hand, he ensured that the Indonesian parliament would take the handling of the case seriously. He also encouraged a systemic reform for the realization of a fair, safe and human space for all children of the country. “The educational environment must be a place where intellect and noble values develop, not space where power is abused to suppress the weaknesses,” he added.
