8 Best New Movies & Shows to Stream – ryan

Flowers are blooming, rain is pouring and movies are coming out — and we’re here to help you sort through what’s best to binge now that we’re in mid-April.

This weekend, April 19-20, we’ve got a diverse slate of movies and shows, ranging from beloved comedies to spooky thrillers. In theaters, Black Panther director Ryan Coogler is taking the charge with his highly anticipated vampire horror, Sinnerswhile Nathan Fielder’s purposely cringey comedy is back on Max.

A number of other genres are hitting multiple streaming platforms this weekend, too. Netflix is taking a swing at Westerns, while Paramount+ is peeling back the curtain on a famous family in a moving documentary.

And there’s more! Here’s a list of the 8 best new movies and shows to watch this weekend and where to stream them.

Sinners

One of the most dynamic duos in Hollywood — Coogler and Michael B. Jordan — paired up once again for a sultry vampire thriller. And Jordan fans, you’re in for a treat: the Creed actor plays identical twins, so you get to see him double on the big screen.

The movie was shot on IMAX 70mm film and was meant to be enjoyed in the widest format possible, so you can get all close and personal with our vampire friends (and a bloodthirsty Hailee Steinfeld appearance).

Sinners releases in theaters on April 18.

Ransom Canyon

Missing Yellowstone? Well, Netflix has you covered with its own (rather steamy) cowboy Western drama featuring Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly as a reunited couple.

The 10-episode series, which was released on April 17, features three competing ranching families and the dynasties they uphold.

Ransom Canyon is now streaming on Netflix.

The Valley season 2 premiere

Vanderpump Rules may have a whole new cast for season 12, but some of its former alums are staying strong on a different Bravo reality show: The Valley.

While season 2, which debuted on April 15, promises a lot of tension between all members of the cast, fans are most eager to see the drama unfold between Vanderpump alums Brittany Cartwright and Jax Taylor, who have had a historically up-and-down relationship.

Watch season 2 of The Valley on Tuesdays on Bravo and the next day on Peacock.

The Rehearsal season 2

We could try to explain Fielder’s latest project, The Rehearsalbut to be honest, does anyone really get it? And, more importantly, does Fielder even want us to?

We have watched the trailer three times (we swear) and here’s what we have gathered: the show is back for season 2, this time it’s going to take its docu-comedy genre to the subject of aviation and Fielder is allegedly trying to save lives. By role-playing. And that’s about all we got!

Either way, it should be a hoot and a holler, as everything always is with the comic.

The first episode of season 2 of The Rehearsal premieres on HBO and Max on Sunday, April 20.

The Glass Dome

This Swedish series just came out on April 15, and it has already skyrocketed to Netflix’s top 10 — namely because of how terrifyingly twisted it is.

The Glass Dome focuses on Lejla, a criminologist who returns to her hometown in Sweden after her adoptive mother dies. However, when there, she’s faced with the kidnapping of her best friend’s daughter Alicia — which is eerily similar to her own kidnapping when she was a child.

Now, Lejla is determined to stay and save Alicia, but as she delves further into the case, it brings back more painful memories from her own traumatic past.

Watch The Glass Dome on Netflix.

The Carters: Hurts to Love You

This week’s documentary follows in the vein of previous weeks with its focus on a harrowing real story. But this time, viewers will be quick to recognize the subjects, as their tale played out in the public eye.

Angel Carter, the twin sister of the late Aaron Carter, opens up in The Carters: Hurts to Love You about the cost of childhood fame and how it impacted her family’s lives. Alongside her brother, Backstreet Boys’ Nick Carter, Angel takes a look back at her family’s history and reflects on what led to three of her siblings — Leslie, Aaron and Bobbie Jean — losing their lives to addiction.

Watch The Carters: Hurts to Love You on Paramount+.

Law & Order and Law & Order: SVU crossover episode

Two of audience’s favorite procedural shows had a special moment this week in a two-hour-long crossover event that kicked off with an episode of Law & Order, followed by Law & Order: SVU.

When SVU’s Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) gets a mysterious call, her team responds to the crime scene of a brutal murder and teams up with Lt. Jessica Brady’s (Maura Tierney) crew to investigate a series of rapes and murders targeting marginalized women.

Watch the Law & Order and Law & Order: SVU crossover on Peacock.

Abbott Elementary season 4 finale

The school year is soon coming to a close, and Abbott Elementary is following suit. After an abbreviated third season due to the writers’ and actors’ strikes, the beloved sitcom came back for season 4 with a full 22 episodes, spanning from October to April.

But now, it’s all coming to a close. The ABC show aired its season 4 finale on April 16, showcasing the elementary school taking its students on a field trip to a museum, much to the older kids’ chagrin.

The show may be on break for now, but don’t worry, fans! Abbott has already been renewed for season 5 and will pick up during ABC’s 2025-2026 season.
