All schools in Kashmir Valley will remain closed on Monday, April 21, Jammu and Kashmir Minister Sakina Itoo said on Sunday. The decision comes amid an IMD warning of unfavorable weather in Jammu and Kashmir, which predicts thunderstorm and strong wind. “In light of the ongoing serious weather and predictions, it was decided that class work in all schools of the valley will remain suspended tomorrow (April 21) for one day (April 21),” Itoo said in a post on X. The minister expanded that the decision was made as a precaution to ensure safety. “This decision was made as a precaution to ensure the safety and well -being of all students.” An order of the Office of the Divisional Commissioner confirmed the same. “In light of the prevailing bad weather and as a precaution, the government and private schools of the Kashmir division will remain closed on the day 21-04-2025,” the order states. “However, all staff and non -teaching staff will continue to attend their duties as usual,” he added. Ramban schools, colleges, meanwhile, all government and private schools, colleges and technical institutions of Jammu and Kashmir’s Ramban district will remain closed in the light of the landslide and flash floods caused on Monday, April 21. “In light of the bad weather and heavy rain causing flash floods, all government and private schools, colleges and technical education institutions of the Ramban district will remain closed on 21.04.2025. Stay indoors, stay safe,” said the Deputy Commissioner. Heavy rainfall due to cloud bursts caused flash floods and landslides early Sunday in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ramban district, leaving three people dead and left a damaging scores of homes, shops and roads, while more than 100 people were saved. A number of towns were cut off from the district headquarters, while roads were swept away in flash floods. A Cloudburst hit the Seri Bagna village, which led to the death of three people – Aqib Ahmad, 12, his brother Mohd Saqib (10) and their neighbor Muni Ram, 65. Hundreds of vehicles were left stranded after traffic on the 250-kilometer strategic highway with Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, the only All-Weather road connecting Kashmir with the rest of the country, was suspended due to debris from mountains that block the route at almost a dozen places between Nashri and Banihal, officials said.
