'BJP did a lot of rig': monkey to boycott MCD mayor election scheduled for April 25 | Mint

The AAM AADMI Party (AAP) announced on Monday that it will not dispute the upcoming election for the mayor and deputy mayor posts in the Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD). The election will take place on April 25. Former Delhi Minister and leader of opposition at the Delhi meeting, Atati, said: ‘The AAame Aadmi party (AAP) will play the role of a strong opposition in the MCD. BJP did a lot, but it still lost. She said that her party did not believe in the ‘politics of sabotage and horse trade’ and therefore decided not to participate in the mayoral competition. “Now the BJP has to form its triple engine government and fulfill its promises to the people of Delhi without any excuses,” Atishi said. Saurabh Bharadwaj, head of AAP’s Delhi unit, who was also present at the press conference, accused the BJP of applauding malpractice during the demarcation process. “The BJP also stopped the MCD election earlier. Wards were moved during demarcation. There was big fraud and corruption during the process. Nevertheless, BJP lost the election and the government formed the government,” Bharadwaj said. He also claimed that BJP councilors tried to disrupt MCD meetings. “After many drama by BJP councilors and continuous deviations, we decided not to field our candidate this time,” he said. BJP has increased its strength in the MCD to 119 members, after a series of deviations from the monkey in recent months. According to a notice from the MCD Secretary’s office, the corporation will convene its usual meeting on April 25, with the mayor and deputy mayor’s posts that will be held at 14:00. Both MPs and MAs nominated to the MCD can vote in the election. First published: 21 Apr 2025, 12:31 pm Ist
