Historians say that the history of the City Palace is associated with the Kingdom of Mewar, which was at its peak near the Nagda region and was ruled by Guhils. He established the supremacy of Maharana Pratap here in 568 AD, and then handed over the Maharana Uday Singh to the state of Mewar in Chittor in 1537, who was successor. But for fear of losing the control of the state to the hands of the Mughals, he decided to transfer his capital to Udaipur, surrounded by mighty Aravalli hills along the lakes, forests and Pichola lake, and set up the palace on the advice of a banquet. The first structure built in the palace is known as the ‘Rai Angan’ of where the construction was at full swing and completed about 1559 AD, although several changes in the structure of the current palace were made.
