Ban the "X" platform in Brazil
The Brazilian Supreme Court ordered the immediate suspension of the “X” platform in the country after the owner disputed the billionaire Illon Musk orders to appoint a legal representative of the social network in the largest country in Latin America. The previously well -known platform as ‘Twitter’ prohibits a month -long conflict between Musk and Supreme Court Judge Alexander de Morais, who makes efforts to combat fake news and hate speech, which he believes is harmful to Brazilian democracy. Earlier this month, Elon Musk closed the office “X” in Brazil to protest the orders from the court to remove certain accounts that claim to publish misleading information. In response, the court notified the company on Wednesday night, in response to a post on the “X” website, that Morais gave it 24 hours to name a legal representative in the country or run the risk of suspending his services. X did not respond to the comment request immediately. The social media platform is available on Friday night as it takes some time to implement Morais. Democrats around the world are struggling with social media expansion on their election and policy. But Brazil has taken some strict measures to hold companies accountable for content after the 2022 presidential election. Digital militia during the election campaign used former President Jayer Bolsonaro to ether waves and online platforms to sow the seed of distrust over the electronic voting system in his country. The unfounded allegations of piracy and theft of votes were angry with the anger of Bolsonaro supporters who carried out riots in Brazil based on the wrong belief that President, Luis Inacio Lula da Silva, lost the election. In April, Morais Musk was included in a widespread achievement in the so -called digital militia, or organized groups accused of using social media to distribute false information and hard criticism, and imposed on the company because of the disobedience of court orders to remove content. This step seems to have led to an increase in the confrontation between the Brazil High Court and the richest person in the world. While X at the beginning of the orders to remove the stories that presumably spread lies, “Musk” later appeared to challenge “Morais”, and announced that it would increase restrictions, even if it were to harm the profit of his business. In August, ‘X’ issued a statement stating that he would close his activities in Brazil ‘immediately’ after Morais threatened her legal representative with arrest for not following the orders of the court. All the time, “Musk” continued to attack the judge on his platform, claiming that his efforts to monitor the content to the level of transcendence and control. The appointment of an actor in Brazil was answered by publishing a photo of a bare man wearing a black cloak behind bars -which appears to be the image of Morais created by artificial intelligence. “One day, Alexander, this image that shows you in prison will be real. Remember my words. ‘ Musk has announced itself as a defender of freedom of expression, and the company has deprived much of its infrastructure and its employees to drive content since its purchase in 2022. The company is mostly dependent on X users to monitor content in search of misleading information by the observations of society, a function that adds to the posts when users are misleading. His platform mask is often used to refute critics and reprimand world leaders, including the First Lady in Brazil Rosanjella da Silva, whose page was cut on the “X” website last year. The collision with the authorities received a brain of a mask in the conservative circles in Brazil, which has long accused the judiciary of attacking their case. The implications of the ban as the judicial embargo persist, the risk of depriving “X” of one of its largest markets outside the United States. Thousands of candidates are being stripped of popular campaigns before the local election held in more than 5,000 Brazilian municipalities in October. A survey was held in December that 29% of smartphone users in Brazil X dropped off to the devices. As in the first quarter of 2024, the platform had about 20 million active users in the country, according to the data “Sensor Tower”, a decrease of about 15% over the previous year. Other social networking platforms have previously violated the internet regulations. Last year, one of the judges temporarily ordered the ban on the telegram application after the correspondence service could not share user data of the content of the new Nazis, which according to authorities were linked to attacks on Brazilian schools. WhatsApp, a correspondent service owned in 2016 for a short period of Mita platforms for failing to comply with the orders of the court to share user data.
