Muslim Personal Legal Board concerned about the Waqf Amendment Bill is looking for time from president

New -Delhi, April 4 (IANS). The Waqf Amendment Bill was accepted from both houses of parliament. It will become a law after the approval of the president. Meanwhile, the All India Muslim Personal Legal Council has requested that President Drupadi Murmu should give time to meet as soon as possible to make them aware of his concerns about the provisions of the bill, before giving his approval on this bill. All the Indian Muslim spokesman for the personal law council, Dr. SQR Ilyas, announced the content of the letter written by general secretary, Maulana Fazalur Rahim Mujaddadi, that the amendment in the law has made important changes related to the administration and autonomy of WAQF, which has historically played an important role in religious and love activities. The purpose of meeting the president is to express their deepest concerns about the recently approved bill and to discuss the consequences on the Muslim community across the country. The general secretary of the council said in the letter: “We believe it is necessary to reconsider the provisions of the division of the law, as it is contrary to the guaranteed fundamental rights, especially religious freedom, equality and safety of religious institutions in the Indian Constitution.” At the end of the letter, President Murmu was asked to give time to keep in mind the seriousness of the matter so that we could present our concerns and discuss the possible solution within the constitutional structure. It is noteworthy that the discussion began on Thursday in the Rajya Sabha on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025, and the bill was approved in the early hours of a successive meeting. 128 votes were brought into his favor and 95 votes in protest march. The lure Sabha approved it a day earlier. The purpose of this bill is to change the WAQF board frame and reduce legal disputes by reducing the amendment in the WAQF Act.
