Jennifer Aniston Talks ‘Extreme Fear of Flying,’ Using ‘Hypnosis’ to Help – ryan

  • Jennifer Aniston revealed that she is using “hypnosis” to help counteract an “extreme fear of flying”
  • The actress said that a big part of making flying easier has been letting go of previous superstitions that she swore by
  • Her revelation comes years after a flight that she was on to Mexico had to turn around and execute an emergency landing

Jennifer Aniston opened up about her “extreme fear of flying” and what she is doing to help counteract it so she can continue to travel.

Although the 56-year-old Friends alum loves spending time near “a white sandy beach and clear, crystal blue water,” she told Travel + Leisure that she’s had to try various techniques to manage the terror she feels in the sky.

Aniston revealed that she used to have superstitions such as “tapping the outside of the aircraft with her right palm and stepping onto the plane with her right foot,” in an interview published by the outlet on April 17. Now, she’s trying something different.

“But I have been doing some hypnosis lately, and one of the requirements is to remove all of those superstitions,” she explained to the outlet. “I have not been doing the right hand, right foot — and now it’s shockingly good!”

She also advocated for “plugging into a good meditation” once the plane takes off.

Aniston listed Japan and the Maldives as two dream vacation spots she still needs to visit during the interview. She described Kauai, Hawaii — where she filmed 2011’s Just Go With It — as her “favorite” place to have filmed. However, a close second was Lake Como, where she filmed Murder Mystery with her Just Go With It costar, Adam Sandler.

While taking steps to overcome her fear of flying, Aniston is also trying to stop being what she described as a notorious “over-packer.”

“You just don’t know where you’re going to be on a certain day, or what mood you’re going to be in,” she reflected, adding that her friends “really appreciate” all the clothes they can borrow while with her.

This is not the first time Aniston has opened up about her fear of flying. Back in 2019, she detailed a flight to Mexico for a birthday getaway with Courteney Cox that went awry.

While on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Aniston recalled hearing an “explosion” as their plane was getting ready to take off.

Two hours into their flight, the plane had to turn around because what appeared to be “debris from a wheel” of their aircraft was found on the takeoff runway.

The group safely landed before completing their trip the next day.
