Iran has collected even more close to weapons of uranium, says the UN watchdog; Israel insists 'Stop Tehran' | Today news
International Atomic Energy Agency, the United Nations Nuclear Guard, said on Saturday that Iran collected near the uranium of weapons degree and called on Tehran to change urgently. After the release of the report, Israel urged the international community to act immediately to stop Iran’s activities. The report comes at a sensitive time when Tehran and Washington have had several rounds of talks in recent weeks about a possible nuclear deal that US President Donald Trump is trying to reach. According to the UN watchdog report, Iran enriched a stock of 408.6 kilograms (900.8 pounds) of uranium to 60 percent. This is an increase of 133.8 kilograms (294.9 pounds) – or almost 50% – since the last report of the IAEA in February. The 60% enriched material is a short, technical step of the weapons degree levels of 90%. A report in February placed this stock level at 274.8 kilograms (605.8 pounds). The report warns that Iran is now “the only non-nuclear weapons state that produces such material” which, according to the agency, was a ‘serious concern’. The UN watchdog said in theory 42 kilograms of uranium enriched up to 60 percent would be sufficient to produce one atomic bomb if it was further refined to 90 percent weapons level. In total, Iran’s stock stood enriched uranium at 9,247.6 kilograms (20,387,4 pounds). This has been an increase of 953.2 kilograms (2,101.4 pounds) since the February report.
