His mother, Carolyn Rose, and father, Cary Alfred Booker, was one of the first black drivers at IBM. Cary Booker died at 73 in 2013 after a long -standing battle with Parkinson disease. He sustained a stroke while living with his wife in Las Vegas. Cary was born on December 10, 1936 and was raised by a single mother and her great extended family in Hendersonville, North Carolina. After completing his education, he moved to Washington, DC, where he met Carolyn. Both worked at IBM. They later became actively involved in the civil rights movement after moving to New Jersey in 1969. After the birth of their second son, Cary was promoted to IBM’s New York office, while Carolyn took a post in White Plains, New York. He and Carolyn were married for 49 years. “The father of the Mayor Booker was an inspiration to him and someone who often credited the mayor because he was a main reason for him entering the public service,” James Allen, spokesperson for the city, told NJ.com in a statement at the time of Cary’s downfall. Senator Cory Booker has two brothers: John Taylor and Cary Booker II. He was not married, but was in a relationship with actress Rosario Dawson from 2018 to 2022.
