Andhra Pradesh: Former Minister Kakani Govardhan Reddy has been arrested in the illegal mining case
Amravati, May 25 (IANS). The Andhra Pradesh police on Sunday arrested former ministers and IceR Congress Party (Ice RCP), Kakani Govardhan Reddy, in the illegal quartz mine case in Kerala. Kakani has avoided arrest over the past few months, detained by a team from Andhra Pradesh police in Kerala. He can be brought to Nellore on Monday. After the complaint of the Department of Mines and Geology, a case was registered in February against Kakani for unauthorized mineral exploitation and illegal transport in the Nellore district. In this regard, Nellore Rural Police Deputy Superintendent of the Police (DSP) issued a notice to him. However, he did not appear before the police. The former minister first approached the Supreme Court and later the Supreme Court for anticipating bail, but he received no relief. Last month, police issued a notice of outlook against Kakani Govardhan Reddy to prevent them from leaving the country. Notices were broadcast at airports and ports. It is alleged that Kakani was involved in the illegal exploitation of quartz in the Nellore district during the Ice RCP rule. It is alleged that despite the termination of the Lease for Asbestos Mine near Tatiparthy, illegal quartz mining near Thoderu Village in the Podalakur division continued. TDP leader and Sarvapalli Mla Somirdi Chandramohan Reddy expressed concern in 2019 about large scale illegal mining. The investigation by the Department of Mines and Geology revealed that 61,313 tonnes were illegally exploited and transported, causing an estimated income loss of Rs 7.56 crore. The investigation that was launched after the TDP coalition came to power last year also revealed that Kakani had illegally stored the explosive material used in mining. He allegedly threatened the tribes that question illegal mining. Kakani is one of the various Ice RCP leaders, who are investigated during the Ice RCP rule on charges of alleged corruption. However, Ice RCP accused TDP of targeting its leaders under political revenge. -Ians PSK/Ekd Share this Story Tags
