India's largest dam
The tendency towards very large dams is built in India’s largest dams, which contribute significantly to not only power generation, but also water management and irrigation. The Tehri Dam on the Ganges River in Uttarakhand is the largest dam in the country. The total length is 575 meters and the height is 260.5 meters. The length of the Hirakund Dam, 15 km from Sambalpur in Odisha, is 25.79 km. It is the longest dam in India. The Indira Sagar -Dam built on the Narmada River is 653 meters and the height is 92 meters. It is located in the Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh. The Nagarjuna Sagar -Dam on the Krishna River is located on the border of the Nalgonda district of Telangana and the Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh. The height is 124.663 meters. Bhakra Dam, built on the Sutlej River in Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh, is one of the oldest dams in the country, with length of 518.16 meters and the height is 167.64 meters. Sardar Sarovar Dam, built on the Narmada River in Gujarat, is the second largest dam in the country. The height of which is 138 meters and the length is 1210 meters. 512 meters long and 145 meters High Syrisalam Dam is located on the Krishna River. There is also India’s second largest capacity hydroelectric center. The Idukki Dam on the Periyar River in Kerala is the first and the world’s second bow pond. It is built between the Kuravan and Kurathi hills. There are 4 electric units of 150 MW at the Ranjit Sagar -Dam at the Ravi River in Pathankot and Kathua in Punjab.
