Nominations for the 2024 Emmy Awards were unveiled on July 17, and a wealth of stage favorites are under the timetable of artists who deserve nod.
Perhaps it is especially striking that the ceremony of this year can do Dear Evan Hansen writers Pasture and Justin Paul Egot winners. They were nominated with fellow songwriters in Broadway Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman for their work on Only murders in the buildingspecifically the song “Which of the Pickwick triplets did it?” Passk and Paul won Academy and Tony Awards in 2017, for La La Land‘S’ City of Stars’ and Dear Evan Hansenrespectively; and a Grammy added for Dear Evan Hansen‘s Broadway Cast album in 2018.
In the leading actor and actress categories the nominees include Matt Bomer for his work in Co -travelers;; Tom Hollander for Feud: Capote vs. the swans;; Andrew Scott for Riple;; Carrie Coon for The gilded age;; Imelda Staunton for The crown;; Larry David for Curb your enthusiasm;; Steve Martin and Martin shortboth for Only murders in the building;; and Jean Smart for Hacks.
Supportive and gas categories nodded for Paul Rudd for Only murders in the building;; Jonathan Pryce for The crown and Slow horses;; Jonathan Bailey for Co -travelers;; Treat Williams for Feud: Capote vs. the swans;; Carol Burnett for Palm Royale;; Liza Colón-Zayas for The bear;; Sheryl Lee Ralph for Abbott Elementary;; Meryl stripe for Only murders in the building;; Christine Baran for The gilded age;; Holland Taylor for The morning show;; Matthew Broderick for Only murders in the building;; Tracy Letts for Win time;; Da’vine joy randolph for Only murders in the building;; Marcia Gay Harden for The morning show;; and Sarah Paulson for Mr. & Mrs. Smith.
Broadway names also received nominations in categories for voice-over, narrative and host, including Hannah Waddingham for Crabbopolis;; Paul Rudd for Secrets of the ocotpus;; Rupaul Charles for Rupaul’s drag race;; Alan Cumming for The traitors;; Jane Lynch for Weakest link;; and Keke Palmer for Password.
The 76th annual Tony Awards earned several nominations for the 2023 unwritten live broadcast, and earned in outstanding choreography for variety or reality programming (Broadway’s Karla Puno Garcia), excellent directing for a variety of special (special special (special special specialsGlenn Weiss), Outstanding lighting design/lighting for a variety of special and outstanding variety of series.
Behind the scenes, several Broadway support pillars were recognized for their TV work. Telsey and Co’s Bernard Telsey, Tiffany Little Canfieldand Destiny Lilly was nominated for excellent cast for a comedy series for their work on Only murders in the buildingand John Shifa also picked up a nod to his choreography about the series, and Leah J. Loukas and Jimmy Goode was nominated with Jameson Eaton and J. Roy Hellland for their work on the series’ hairstyle team. Along with his nomination for the Murders only Song, Shaiman got a nod to excellent musical composition for a documentary series or special for Albert Brooks: Defend my life. Waitress composer and In the forest star Sara bareilles got a nomination in the same category for ‘the medium time’ of Girls5eva.
Two Broadway shows also received Emmy nominations via their live phase films. Alex Edelman‘ Just for us and Mike Birbiglia‘ The old man and the pool Both nodded in the excellent writing for a variety of special categories.
This year’s Emmy Ceremony was postponed due to Hollywood strikes, with the nominees of this year representing the first time television programming of June 1, 2023 -May 31, 2024. The Creative Arts ceremony will be held in the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on September 7 and 8, with the main ceremony after September 15.
