The task, he said, like the architect who had to secure the national house, remain firm and intact. “But this authority must be used very carefully and wisely. Amendment is not an immediate solution to every problem,” Muzani said. Muzani said the amendment of the 1945 Constitution must undergo a transparent long process. In addition, the community must know what the reasons are behind the changes. “The community must know every step and reasons behind the proposed change,” Muzani explained. “He must also be participating. All elements of the country, from academics, community leaders to the people can be involved in the amendment process,” he continued. The Secretary of the Council of Trustees of the Gerindra Party said that the amendment should be based on consensus or broad agreements, and that it includes many circles. “Amendments to the Constitution of 1945 may not be based on the wishes of a group of people or a handful of people. But that must reflect the agreement of all elements of the country,” he said. Muzani emphasized that the commemoration of National Constitutional Day was a reminder that maintaining the base of the state was a joint task. Because the Constitution belongs to all Indonesian people, not a handful of people or certain parties. “That the task of maintaining the Constitution is a collective task. The Constitution does not belong to a group of people, but belongs to all groups belonging to all people, even belongs to all the children of the country,” he added. At the event, Muzani also quoted the statement of Mohammad Yamin who said that the proclamation and Constitution were two inseparable things. For him, the proclamation of independence is a political statement, while the Constitution is a follow -up to the legal basis that guarantees people’s sovereignty. “Yamin also emphasized that the Constitution must be a mirror of the soul and ideals of the sovereign Indonesian population, not just to mimic from other constitutions. Therefore, it is not excessive if we emphasize that the Constitution is our highest source of law,” he concluded. (Ond/FCA)
