(Photo-Canva/AI generated) Wedding-Bisarre Traditions: There are many unique and age-old traditions of marriage around the world, giving us the chance to understand the lifestyle and thinking of different societies. Some of these traditions surprise us, especially if they are very different from our own cultural beliefs. In some parts of Tibet, there is another of such a unique practice related to marriage, called polynier. Under this incredible tradition, a woman jointly marries many brothers of the same family. This practice has been in progress there, and its main purpose is to protect the family from the distribution of the ancestral property. According to researchers associated with the China Academy of Social Sciences, the oldest brother in this tradition is the “chief” of the woman, while the other brother is called “ally”. However, all the brothers looked equal rights with the woman and the woman treated all the brothers. The deep economic and geographical reasons are mainly hidden behind this practice. These areas are very cold, high and barren, where arable land is very low. If every brother would have married separately and the property was divided, every family part would have so little land or resources that they could barely live. Polindry ensures that family property, such as land and livestock, remains as the same unit and does not divide for generations. With this, all the male members of the family work together to keep the financial condition of the family strong. Apart from this, this practice also collects the number of (labor) of people who work in one place. Being many male members in a large family helps difficult tasks such as farming, animal husbandry and business, which are very important to live in such inaccessible areas. This practice can be strange or shocking to the people of the outside world, but in those parts of Tibet it is considered perfectly normal and acceptable. In this system, children are also considered a common child of all men and raised all the men together. The identity of the biological father does not get much important because all Father is equal. However, some studies have also shown that there are some challenges in this practice, such as a conflict of personal interests between men or maintaining emotional balance for the woman. In modern times, especially in urban areas, monogamy is now becoming more popular, but this age-old tradition is still living in remote rural and hilly areas. This tradition is an example of how human society has developed different social structures to survive in difficult situations and maintain its culture.
