The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) intends to build a sewerage treatment plant to generate treated water for its 750 green areas under a comprehensive irrigation project. DDA officials shared this information on Monday. Country Ownership Agency, which maintains a water management project, focuses on cost-effectiveness and self-sufficient irrigation systems. Officials said that those currently being treated for green areas are made directly available by water tankers or pipelines laid by the Delhi Jal Direction (DJB) for water supply. He said the agency now plans to set up its own sewerage treatment plans (STPs) and irrigation systems, which will reduce the dependence on external agencies. A DDA official said: “We currently have tankers in some parks and some others have pipelines related to the nearest DJB STP. Now we want an extensive system for which a consultant will be hired to compile a project report and offer all aspects of design and operation.” According to data available on the DDA website, it needs about 34 million liters per day (MLD) of water for all its parks and green areas. The department is largely dependent on DJB for this offer. The official said the advisor would have to do a detailed study to identify the demand for current water for irrigation in all the designated parks and to evaluate the availability of water treated from existing and potential sources. The consultant will develop an extensive plan to design STP which will include all technical aspects such as raw sewage collection, capacity, technology and treatment procedures and will be insured according to the scheme. “Through this process, the DDA aims to discover viable options to increase the water efficiency by lowering the costs so that the long -term stability of its parks and green regions can ensure long -term stability.” The DDA focuses on the instructions of the National Green Tribunal to prevent the lack of groundwater in the national capital and to prevent further exploitation of garden.
