Google Translate takes on Duolingo with new exercise mode, Gemini Powered AI functions. All you need to know
Google plans to make some large AI-powered changes to its Google Translate app, which, among other things, can take the technical giant face to face with Duolingo with the release of a new practice mode feature. According to an Android Authority report, Google Translate’s new practice mode feature will be aimed at gameing the learning experience on the app. The function creates personalized lessons that can currently only be practiced in French or Spanish. After selecting the desired language, users will be asked to choose their skill level from options such as just starting, basic, intermediate and advanced. From there, Google Translate users will ask users to choose from a variety of scenarios to practice their new language, including food and drink, greetings and introductions, and to ask for directions, along with dedicated subtypes. In addition, Google will also offer the option to create a personal practice scenario and choose whether it will be a listening or talking session. As part of the changes in the translated onion, Google will shrink the size of the voting feed button and move to the right instead of taking the middle position. Meanwhile, there is also a bookmark button at the top to store content and a new row of icons at the bottom for microphone, handwriting and paste. What other changes come to Google translated? Google is also reportedly adding a model voter to the app, which will be available on the translation results page. The report says that the quick model will optimize for ‘speed and efficiency’, while the advanced model ‘specializes in accuracy using twins.’ It seems that the quick model in Google Translate is aimed at getting quick translations into scenarios, such as reading a hanging board or a menu, while the advanced model can be handy for scenarios that need an understanding of context, such as having a one-to-one conversation with a mother tongue speaker. However, the new advanced model function is currently only supporting English – French and English – Spanish translation at the moment.
