Goddess Ahilya chose Maheshwar because of mythological and historical importance

Maharani Devi Ahilyabai Holkar came to Indore after the marriage to Khanderao in 1735. Holkar was the father -in -law of the state’s chief Malharrao Holkar, Ahilyabai’s father -in -law. Ahilyabai saw many ups and downs in her life. After reaching Indore, her husband died in 1754, and her father -in -Law died in 1766, her son and mother -in -in -in -law died in 1766. For peace of mind, Ahilyabai also thought about living somewhere in the Himalayas, but by nature very religious and active, Ahilyabai thought to make a religious place in the vicinity of her capital. Of this, he found Maheshwar the best of mythologically and historically, so that he chose it. These places seen for the capital considered the goddess Ahilyabai Narmada River are very sacred. The search for the location for the capital began in places along the banks of Narmada. The Mardana place described in ancient texts, which were in Nimar, found Ahilyabai appropriate, but astrologers did not consider this place appropriate. Maheshwar was considered suitable for all criteria and in 1766 it was decided to make it the capital. This is the importance of Maheshwar, Ujjain and Maheshwar is considered one of the ancient cities of the Malwa region of Madhya Pradesh. In ancient texts, Avantika (Ujjain) and Mahishmati (Maheshwar) are called. According to beliefs, Maheshwar was founded by King Mahishmana. Maheshwar King was the capital of Sahastrajun’s non -capital. The dispute between Adi Shankaracharya and Mandan Mishra took place in this area on the banks of Narmada. In 1745, Malharrao Holkar ordered building buildings with special facilities in Maheshwar. There is also a belief about Maheshwar that Ravana came to Maheshwar, the capital of Sahastrabahu. To show his bravery, he tried to stop the flow of Narmada’s water with his hand, but the water flowed out of his hand, so the Narmada River is a collaborative place in a short distance from Maheshwar. In 1766 focusing on the development of Maheshwar, the goddess Ahilyabai Maheshwar made the capital of the empire. The doors of Maheshwar’s development were opened after becoming the capital.
