Politics Center identifies priority National highways for electric trucks and buses The PM-e-drive scheme has assigned £ 2,000 out of the £ 10,900 layout for the installation of public loading stations. Summary These priority highways fall on key load routes, and it is thought that trucks moving with it are largely contributing to carbon emissions. New -Delhi: The Ministry of Heavy Industries has identified priority highways for Intercity commuting by electric trucks and buses, according to two people who are aware of the development. The routes, which include Delhi-Chandigarh, Delhi-Jaipur, Pune-Aurangabad, Chennai Bengaluru and Indore-Bhopal, will be equipped with the loading stations of electric vehicles (EV). The move comes after the Premier E-drive scheme announced that the ministries of heavy industries and road transport and highways, along with other stakeholders, would identify routes for the construction of load infrastructure on highways. However, the consultation is still underway, and it is not the only highways where EV loading stations will be installed, one of the above persons mentioned above. The Premier-E-Display Scheme, which gives EVs government subsidy, has allocated £ 2,000 crore from its £ 10,900 issue for the installation of public loading stations. These priority highways fall on key load routes, and it is thought that trucks moving with it greatly contribute to carbon emissions. The truck sector accounts for about a third of the country’s transport-related carbon emissions, a report by the Niti Aayog in 2022. The electrification of cargo transport by replace diesel trucks for electric trucks is likely to reduce such emissions, and these are sufficient drawers mentioned above. But the government’s efforts to make truck emissions free hit a brick wall. Of these, £ 150 crore had to be spent in FY25. But no such payout took place for the sector. Mint reported on April 6 that the government has chosen sectors such as ports, logistics, cement and steel to raise the demand for electric trucks. The priority roads for electric buses tell a slightly different story. Until now, the government has only made policy interference for the introduction of electric buses in the intration commute. Under the Premier E-Display Scheme, the Ministry of Heavy Industries identified nine metropolises where electric buses would be obtained from a subsidized tariff by operators. These are: New -Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Pune, Ahmedabad, Surat and Bengaluru. Now electrical public transport can continue to Intercity Mobility, with the government showing the intention of installing EV -load infrastructure over highways. The government previously offered three pilot projects for the electrification of national highways via the National Highways for Electric Vehicles (NHEV), an organization created specifically for these pilots. The agency offered pilot projects on Delhi Agra in 2020, Delhi-Jaipur in 2022, and Chennai-Trichy in 2024. Read also | Ola Electric says it has enough service centers. Govt did not buy that the Power Ministry informed a list of 12 highways for the installation of EV charges in 2018. Installing loading stations would reduce the anxiety of the range, when buyers hesitate to switch to an EV because of the limited range on one full charge. It also follows the government’s efforts to install EV loading stations at other public infrastructure in the country, including ports and airports. Mint previously reported that the Ministry of Heavy Industry was busy with the ministries of ports, sent and waterways, as well as civil aviation to determine the demand for the heffructure. Another big problem bothering EV loading stations. The Heavy Industries Ministry told Parliament in February that of the approximately 4500 EV chargers installed with government subsidies under the Fame-II scheme, only 251 ‘was energetic’ or operational as at the beginning of 2025.
