Beijing is prepared to support normal business cooperation with US firms, the China Ministry said in China, coming days after Chinese airlines were ordered to stop delivering Boeing aircraft. The Chinese Ministry of Commerce said on Tuesday that US tariffs had harmed China’s airlines and Boeing. This expressed the hope that the US government would listen to businesses and create a stable, predictable environment for trade and investment. “The US application of rates has severely affected the stability of the global industrial chain and supply chain, disrupting the international air transport market and preventing many companies from performing normal trading and investment activities,” he said. The remarks came after Beijing told Chinese airlines earlier this month not to place new orders for Boeing jets, and asked them to get approval before delivering aircraft they ordered. The planemaker is the latest major US firm trapped in the crossfire of the trade war between the world’s two largest economies. President Trump slapped a 145% tariff on Chinese products, after which Beijing refuted with a 125% levy on US goods. Beijing also placed dozens of US firms on its trade control lists and launched an anti-monopoly investigation into the chemical giant Dupont. Analysts believe the steep rates make it impractical for China to import US manufactured aircraft. Since the deliveries have stopped, Boeing has begun to fly back aircraft that were previously destined for Chinese airlines.
