Eye signs reveal early symptoms of dementia – ryan

A new study from the University of Otugo in New Zealand confirmed that looking at the eyes may one day help discover the signs of dementia long before the start of memory loss.

Dr. Ashley Barrett-Young, a professor of psychology at the University of Ottago and a major researcher in the study, said that the retina is connected to the brain, according to what was published by Money Control.

She pointed out that the retina is the light layer of light in the back of the eye, which is part of the central nervous system, that is, it is directly linked to the brain. For this reason, changes in the retina can reflect what is happening in the brain, including early signs of diseases such as Alzheimer’s.

The small blood vessels in the eye can carry important evidence, as they can show early signs of damage that can be associated with dementia, and the narrow arteries and wide veins are more common in people with signs of brain aging.

She pointed out that the eye examination will be a tool for early detection of dementia, as she made it clear that cognitive tests often cannot predict the disease, but rather indicate it after the emergence of symptoms, and that brain tests, such as MRI, are expensive.

Network tests are characterized by speed, non -surgical intervention and ease of access, stressing that the accurate blood veins in the most spacious eye have appeared in many warning signs, making it a new field that must be closely monitored.

She explained that the future brain condition cannot be predicted by eye examination, although the results are promising, but more research is needed before using them in practical diagnosis.
