Charli XCX, Lola Young and Whams last Christmas get Ivor awards nod
London, April 23 (Reuters) – Charli XCX’s hit album “Brat” and Wham! ‘S perennial festive hit “Last Christmas” is one of the musical works nominated by Ivors, Britain’s annual awards in honor of songwriters and screen composers. Lola Young was in the leadership with three nominations, her first of the Ivors Academy on Wednesday. This included one for Rising Star, while her single “messy” was one of the contenders for the best song and lyrical. Her plate “It wasn’t meant for you anyway” is nominated for the best album, along with Charli XCX’s “Brat”, which inspired a cultural phenomenon last year, and singer Jordan Rakei’s “The Loop”. Further nominations went to Rappers Ghetts and Berwyn for their albums “with purpose, with purpose” and “who am I” respectively. Wham’s “Last Christmas”, released in 1984, but returns to the British maps regularly during the festive season, is nominated in the most performed category. The author, the late singer George Michael, was last nominated at the Ivors 20 years ago. Dua Lipa’s “Houdini”, Myles Smith’s “Stargazing” and “Prada” by Casso, Raye and D-Block Europe, are also nominated. Harry Styles’s 2022 “as it was”, nominated for a third year underway, completing the most performed list. After winning the songwriter of the year at Ivors of last year, Raye was nominated for the best song musical and lyrical for her single “Genesis”. Also in that category, ‘Child of Mine’ by Laura Marling, ‘in the Modern World’ by Fontaines DC and Orla Gartland’s ‘mine’, The best contemporary singing claim is Ghetts’s “Double Standards (Feat. Sampha)”, father Salieu’s “Allergy”, Jade’s “Angel of My Dreams”, Sans Soucis’s “Circum Navigating Georgia” and Bashy’s “How Black Men Lose”. Last month, organizers said Irish Rockers U2 will receive the Ivors Academy Fellowship, the UK-based association’s highest honor, at their awards, their 70th edition. Named after the early 20th century Welsh composer, actor and Entertainer Ivor Novello, the Ivor awards in 1956 were awarded for the first time. The ceremony will be held in London on May 22.
