The Directorate for Enforcement (ED) began performing raids in eight places in Hyderabad on Wednesday with a link to the case of irregularities. The search for the ED is done on a site of unnamed beneficiaries of the scheme and middlemen, identified on the basis of the gel route, sources said. The case of sheep-solving irregularities involves a loss of hundreds of crores to the government according to a CAG report. However, the possible loss mentioned in the fir of the case relates to £ 2.1 crore. The ED has crucial information, which indicates massive fraud in the sheep distribution scheme, according to the sources. The Audit Report of Telangana Sheep Distribution Scam Cag for period ended March 2021 revealed several irregularities in the implementation of the SRDS scheme. This includes non-maintenance of beneficiary manner, improper record of invoices regarding transportation invoices and payments, and payments at invoices containing false/ passenger vehicles/ non-transport vehicle registration numbers. The irregularities included further duplicate labels assigned to sheep units, including sheep units assigned to dead/ non-existent persons, etc. The CAG’s audit report is limited to only 33 districts in Telangana. The estimated loss to the government was set at £ 253.93 crore in these seven districts. On a proportional basis for all 33 districts in the entire state of Telangana, the loss is likely to be more than 1000 crore.
